Boosting performance with AMD A8-6600K/GTX970
Boosting performance with AMD A8-6600K/GTX970
Overdrive is a poor method for overclocking—it forces excessive voltage through the chip. The BIOS is the better option, allowing you to overclock and undervolt simultaneously since you’re not using integrated graphics. Make sure the turbo core is fully disabled; it only boosts speed on one or two cores, which isn’t ideal for multi-threaded games. Great suggestions! I’m considering visiting PC World to buy a Coolermaster 212 due to its low price and positive reviews. Just checking if it fits my X11 case before starting the overclocking process. Any advice on how to proceed?
The setup won't work with those side fans mate.
Deepcool s40, hyper 103, raijintek aidos are all available for around £18 on Amazon – they’ll fit and perform well.
You didn’t mention your board model?
Great, thanks Matt.
I’m planning to leave work in about five minutes and will share my board model when I get back.
Cheers.

It won't fit with those side fans mate - that's for sure.
Deepcool s40, hyper 103, raijintek aidos - all about £18 from Amazon - they'll all fit & they'll all do a decent job.
You never mentioned your board model??
The Cooler Master 103 looks like the cooler i'll be going for, pleased to have finally made a decision on which fan I can use. I thought the case fans would protrude out too much to host a bigger cooler but did not get round to taking the measurements.
Here's some pics:
Guess the next step is to overclock and record the fps changes?
It's unlikely to be an ideal setup for boosting performance. The FSB is running a bit faster than usual, which contributes to the 4.2ghz boost speed.
It won't be an ideal setup for overclocking, to be honest. The FSB is slightly overclocked right now, which explains the 4.2ghz turbo speed. The Cooler Master 103 seems to be running much cooler than before. I'm not aiming for a big jump—just a small improvement in FPS during certain games would be great. I didn't realize the FSB was overclocked when I installed it, and I haven't adjusted it since. The stock speed is 3.9ghz with a boost of 4.2ghz; I've disabled the boost function to keep it at 4.2ghz. Are you sure that's the default setting?
