Boost your Oculus Rift S sound quality by 50% with this easy-to-install upgrade!
Hey there! I've been using my Rift S for more than a year, and the only sound coming from it has always been the audio. Even after trying all kinds of headphones—buds, wireless, wireless earbuds—I haven’t found anything better. It’s not great enough for things like sim racing while listening to my favorite tunes. But then I had a big idea. If you wrap your hands around your ears to block the noise, the sound improves noticeably. I made a quick DIY version using plastic from an empty cookie box and some simple cuts. Now I’m looking for a better way to secure it, maybe with carbon fiber vinyl wrap I already have. I’ll post the updated pictures soon. But it works! You can probably build a similar one from cardboard in under three minutes and test it yourself. Once you lift the side, the difference is clear—louder, cleaner, and closer to real headphones. I’ve lowered my main volume on the Oculus from 100% to 90% and it’s still not perfect, but it’s a start. See the photos for more details!
Great feedback! It really enhances the sound and doesn’t disrupt anything. You could easily print a small model of the piece and sell it for a profit. It’s a solid idea.
Here are the updated images I prepared, and I added a red front to match my computer and personal items. Feel free to share the mod if you're on Oculus forums or Reddit, but I won't join those VR-related discussions. Thanks!
