Board shorted to earth
I purchased an Acer 13057-1M motherboard used, but when attempting to power it, it failed to turn on. Upon inspection, it was discovered that the 5V supply was shorted to ground. The board had been tested prior to purchase and functioned properly. How could such a short exist without any obvious damage?
It looks like a very compact motherboard. A quick check can help: take out all parts from the case and see if the system starts with the board on a cardboard box. If it boots, you likely need to insulate the board from the case. Some boards have a hole that connects directly to the +5V rail instead of ground, which can cause shorts. This might mean the board is damaged beyond repair unless you fix the component-level issues. Good luck!
