Board fails to power on or starts intermittently for Z370 Aorus model.
Using pressure or bending around the CPU socket with a plastic rod, slightly moving the cooler side back and forth, and adjusting the tension on the ILM bolts appears to trigger booting or partial booting. The cooler was secured with a rigid backplate, suggesting it didn’t cause board flexing. I haven’t confirmed yet if any shorts occurred, but I’ll verify later. The system functioned normally for several days while testing a new GPU without problems. When I inserted a RAID card, issues emerged, though it might be unrelated. Now the machine won’t boot or shows no life with the card installed. Initially operational, it would enter POST after entering card settings in UEFI, then loop before shutting down completely. After removing the card, the POST repeated until it stopped. I noticed the GPU seemed responsive when gently wiggled, but pulling it out left it dead. Applying slight pressure to the cooler helped it boot. This increased the need to flex or bend the board via the cooler. The frequency and amount of bending have risen sharply. I suspect the socket connection to the board may be the root cause. I’ll inspect the soldering more closely once off the bench. I only have one CPU to test, so I’m swapping it onto a H370 board to confirm CPU, RAM, and video card health. I’ll also ensure the RAID card works on the H370. The board was purchased second-hand. What specific aspects should I examine to pinpoint the problem? Should I try heating the socket from the backside using a small hot air gun? How can I prevent movement of the socket and components while heating?
