Blue Screen of Death during gameplay.
Blue Screen of Death during gameplay.
Hello, my PC crashes (BSOD) during gaming, initially occurring with Wildlands shortly after assembling the new PC six months ago. The issue resolved temporarily following driver updates, but then returned when reverting to older drivers, specifically with GTA 5. It subsequently reappeared with Wildlands and was accompanied by file corruption errors. I uninstalled the game, tested other titles (including Mafia 3, which also experienced intermittent crashes), and refrained from updating Nvidia drivers for some time. Eventually, I used DDU to remove and reinstall drivers while playing Breakpoint, but the crashes continued after a few hours. I have checked temperatures using MSI Afterburner, with maximum GPU temperatures reaching 70°C (±1-2°C), and CPU temperatures peaking at 75°C, though typically remaining around 70°C. I am seeking assistance in identifying the cause as I have researched this online but haven't found a conclusive solution. My PC is not generating memory dumps for BSOD, even with dump settings enabled, suggesting a restart mechanism may be triggered by high temperatures. I plan to run Memtest86 for my RAM and explore other diagnostic tools, ensuring optimal airflow by running all five case fans at maximum speed. Despite these efforts, the crashes persist despite elevated temperatures. I am considering replacing my thermal paste and examining PSU wiring for potential power delivery issues, as my motherboard does not have a dedicated 4-pin connector and I intend to use an adapter if necessary. My CPU is unoverclocked, set at 3600MHz RAM speed. Initial BSODs involved PC restarts and difficulty loading Windows, requiring BIOS adjustments (primarily Armoury Crate settings) to initiate the boot process. Driver updates and rollbacks offered temporary relief, but were not sustainable solutions. System specifications: AMD 3700X (stock cooler), Zotac Amp Extreme 2070 Super, Corsair 850W semi-modular PSU, Asus X570F Motherboard, Silicon Power NVMe 500GB SSD, 2TB Seagate HDD, 16GB G.Skill Sniper X RAM (3600MHz).
Blue Screen of Death errors frequently stem from memory problems, though other hardware components could also be the cause. Consider running memtest86 to assess your RAM's stability.
What was the error code displayed on the blue screen? It should have appeared at the bottom of the screen.
It is improbable that GPU temperatures would trigger a BSOD. It's also acceptable to use only one 8-pin connector for your motherboard.
When you state adjusting RAM to 3600 MHz, are you referring to enabling XMP?
I was unable to obtain the BSOD code as it just restarted before I could read it, so I attempted to use a minidump or other method. I’m uncertain if it's XMP, but I had previously performed this configuration to utilize 3600 MHz. Following a BIOS update downloaded from the ASUS website, it reset to default settings, and I subsequently managed to reach 3600 MHz again by employing DOCP with a default multiplier of 100, without altering any other settings.
Did you achieve 3600MHz by using a dropdown menu and choosing a profile? If not, could you provide a link to the video demonstrating this process? Furthermore, are you positive there is no minidump available?
Yes, there is a drop-down menu. And I haven’t been able to obtain a minidump because I even searched for it using the “show hidden files” option. I’ve attempted to do this several times, and I was unable to retrieve a memory dump.
I will certainly attempt that to determine if it’s the problem. Is there any software capable of reading BSOD data, as I cannot obtain a minidump?
