Blue flashing indicator on the MSI motherboard
Blue flashing indicator on the MSI motherboard
I changed my PC to a new case recently. After reconnecting everything, it powers on correctly and functions normally. However, a blue blinking light appears in the top left corner, and it doesn’t follow any recognizable pattern. This wasn’t an issue in the old case, so it might relate to BIOS settings or another component. Could be a warning light—please let me know if you’d like more details.
It's connected via the 8-pin EPS connector, likely indicating a status LED for your power cable or connector. The MSI motherboard model you're referring to would depend on the specific configuration, so checking your system's BIOS or manufacturer documentation would help identify the exact model.
It's the MSI P55A-G55. I had to decide between an 8-pin connector and a 2x4-pin connector. I used the 8-pin as recommended in the research. Should I have chosen the 2x4-pin instead? It seems to have stopped blinking and stayed on now, unlike the old case.
It doesn't matter much. 4+4 offers a modular and adaptable version of the traditional 8-pin setup. Different motherboards need varying pin counts—some need 8, others just 4, and some heavy overclocking boards use both 8 and 4 pins. I just looked at the MSI P55A-G55 user manual; it mentions an 'APS LED' which shows how many CPU power phases (VRMs) are active on the board. The older board had a 3+1 VRM configuration—three dedicated for the CPU and one for memory. This helps indicate how many phases are currently being used compared to modern boards that often have over 10 dedicated CPU phases.
