I'm really disappointed about Vanilla WoW private server Nostalrius shutting down. I know it's okay to close things, but I hope they'd create real past expansion servers instead. I haven't played much on the server lately, though—I did level up a character to 60 and raided a bit. I'm considering trying a new private server called PlayTBC that's coming soon. I'm not sure why I'm sharing this, but lately I've been frustrated with Blizzard's decisions regarding live games and their plans for Legion. Random thoughts/comments?
If Blizzard doesn’t want to bring back classic servers, there’s nothing you can do. I left World of Warcraft many years ago, but if I were in their position, I’d shut down illegal servers too. You should pay for it if you want to play WoW. I get your point, though. Everyone faces tough times like this. Games end or change badly, and I had to leave SWG because of the crazy updates—it was by far the best MMO ever.
It's their right, yet it doesn't obligate them to act. Blizzard is no longer part of the standard game, and the other expansions have faded away. If you want to relive the old World of Warcraft, you'll have to play WoD instead. Private servers often revive older content and aim to bring back that cherished experience for fans.
The discussion on the battlenet forums is absurd. It's as if a person is caught stealing, arrested by the store officer, and then yelling they'll never return to the store again because they're being forced out.

In reality, the server was available for play, but donations were the only source of income to cover its fees. Ultimately, no money came in. I believe Blizzard had every right to shut it down, as refusing to provide what fans wanted—especially old expansion content—was deeply frustrating for many. After spending some time on Nostalrius, I tried WoD and found the game performance to be poor, matching the negative reports. It seems there’s little more to say about it.
