Early access mainly focuses on the multiplayer aspect.

Technically the game isn't finished yet. The absence of Xen and multiplayer remains unresolved. However, overall it functions as a full game.

That's the reason the Black Mesa countdown was set for #HL3, right?

Seriously, hand over the rights to Half Life 3 or Episode 3 to another developer and let them handle it. A solid start-up could generate a huge amount of revenue.

Oh well, it's been ages now. They changed from a mod to a paid version—still a free mod, but with beta multiplayer added. Still no ending, which makes it worse than Valve's Half-Life. We'll have to wait another decade for the final chapter.

If you need to cover the cost, I wouldn't label it a mod.

Just so everyone is aware (I'm sure you are) the Mod is still free from the Dev's website www.blackmesasource.com The version that is on there will continue to remain free, and is available on various mod hosting sites. The Steam version will include Xen + Multiplayer. Xen was largely considered the weakest part of the original game, so many people don't even care about it. If you don't, and don't want to pay for the Steam version, then feel free to continue to play the free original Mod - which is still super fun! Personally, as soon as it drops out of Early Access, I'll be picking this up on Steam. I might even get it sooner, since I've already played the existing version of the Mod, and know it's good. Even without Multiplayer and Xen, it's worth $20. I heard that they were going to re-release it using Source 2 engine with totally revamped graphics? Can anyone confirm that?
