They seem to have a corrupted drive. The blue screen prompts for a BitLocker key, which they provide, then spends around half an hour on recovery before returning. After that, they re-enter the key and repeat the cycle. It looks like the drive might be damaged. Advise them to check the physical hardware, consider professional data recovery, and avoid further attempts until confirmed.
Consider connecting the drive to another PC as a data source and check for a lock icon nearby. Upon opening it, a BitLocker prompt may appear requesting the BitLocker password or recovery key. Use the one provided by your friend to unlock it, allowing them to access their files.
If the device connected to another system remains inaccessible, consider running a 'chkdsk /f' to detect file system issues. This approach works for common errors but may not resolve physical damage.
I don’t have an extra M.2 port to connect the drive from her laptop for testing. I looked for adapters and think they might not be reliable. Do you know if there are any genuine M.2 to USB converters available?
