BIOS Updated – Overclocking Not Possible
BIOS Updated – Overclocking Not Possible
Hello there!
Here is the list of components:
MOBO: Asus Strix Z270-E Gaming
CPU: Intel i7 7700k (not "delidded")
CPU Cooler: Corsair Hydro Series H115i Extreme Performance
RAM: Corsair Vengeance 2x8GB DDR4 3000MHz CL15
Until recently, my i7 7700k was overclocked to 4.8 GHz. After updating the BIOS to version 1009, all settings returned to default. I selected an XMP profile for the RAM and set the DRAM voltage to 1.3530.
On the CPU side, I adjusted the Core Ratio Limit to 48 and set Sync All Cores CPU Voltage to Auto. Save and Exit!
I re-entered BIOS just to confirm the CPU speed was still at 4.2 GHz. The settings remain unchanged.
I’m unsure how to perform a proper overclock successfully. I only followed what I remembered before, but I can’t find any good step-by-step guides or tutorials. I really need a detailed tutorial with pictures or a video.
Please help! Thank you!
Hmm, I don't have any first hand experience with Asus BIOS options, but I'm a little suspect of the "Limit" in that option title. Maybe it's doing something other than what you think it would. If you look around, is there another setting just called "Core Ratio" or maybe "Core/CPU multiplier"?
It looks like there should be a setting just called "CPU Core Ratio", if you look at the second image on this page. Does your BIOS look like that?

Are you implying that you can't re-apply your original OC, or are you saying your previous OC was erased when you updated your BIOS? If it's the latter, that's expected. There are many helpful resources for Skylake/Kaby Lake overclocking, such as this guide: https://www.tweaktown.com/guides/7481/tw...index.html
