BIOS restart cycle and VGA indicator remain active post-GPU replacement
After upgrading my CPU recently, my previous graphics card became a performance limiter. I replaced it with the new RX6700 but faced several issues. The VGA indicator lit up and the BIOS booted after about five minutes. Initially, the screen turned on but only showed black until the BIOS loaded. Trying to exit the BIOS caused another delay that repeated the same menu. Placing the old card back didn’t fix it either. Swapping out the GPU completely and using the built-in HDMI port also didn’t resolve the problem. Each restart had fans spinning multiple times, then showing the CPU debug light before returning to the VGA light. This setup has been stable since the CPU upgrade. I’ve attempted various fixes without success: removing the CMOS battery, resetting CMOS, rotating RAM, re-seating the GPU, rebooting with BIOS defaults, and testing HDMI/DisplayPort on the GPU. The system specs are listed above.
I have exactly the same problem but this is how it went down for me. For the last couple of months I had BSOD once a week (usually when running a lot of apps or playing a game for long time) so it didnt bother me much for some reason, at least not to care. Three days ago while playing the same game I noticed that the graphics were kinda weird (less detailed while using same settings) and then only 10 minutes into the game pc just got stuck. I couldn't do anything except restart the pc manually, followed by the black screen, led on mobo solid red and all the other issues that you have. Yesterday I bought a brand new GPU and a psu just in case, after installing them with brand new cables, I still get the same outcome. At this point I'm thinking that maybe mobo is done but I'll follow your post in case anybody else have any solution. Thinking back about when the problem started is shortly after I added wdblack nvme to my build, but removing it didn't
If the system manages to post (display the image), it's not a GPU fault at this stage. To me, it seems that your system can POST but can't enter the OS. Are you sure that isn't the case? The onboard HDMI can't display anything, the Ryzen 5900X has no integrated GPU. The motherboard is a bit weak for the 5900X CPU. And you didn't mention which cooler you use. Have you checked the CPU for bent pins? Checked your CMOS battery voltage?
The CPU appears intact with no bent pins, and the CMOS seems to be working well. Resetting the CMOS brings up the reset screen, prompting a choice between BIOS or default settings. The cooler you're using is the Thermaltake Pearless Assassin. Is this related to the motherboard?
