BIOS recovery settings – PC crashed while updating BIOS on an ASUS Rog Strix X470 F Gaming with a Ryzen 7 2700X.
Hello everyone. I'm facing a tough issue with my PC. It crashed during a BIOS update and now only shows a warning message. I attempted several fixes but nothing worked. I used a USB drive with the correct file, tried different BIOS versions, even a motherboard CD, but still no improvement. I removed all drives and swapped RAM sticks without success. A local repair shop said my motherboard is damaged and needs replacement. They also checked it with another machine, which confirmed the problem. My build details are clear: ASUS Rog Strix X470, Ryzen 7 2700X, Tridentz G Skill 3200, RTX 2070. The warranty has expired, so I have no protection. Any advice on how to proceed or repair it would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!
Use the motherboard disk as your boot medium. You'll require a DVD reader to access it. Start from the disk and choose BIOS recovery. This will apply the original firmware. It's recommended to completely erase CMOS before and after any future firmware updates.
Connect to another PC, use a USB stick, visit your motherboard manufacturer's site, download the newest BIOS file, move the ROM to the drive’s root folder (after renaming it, ASUS provides a tool), insert the USB into your motherboard, restart and the board should re-flash itself.
It seems you're unsure about the Crash Free Bios function. From what I understand, it functions only on certain Asus boards with BIOS Flashback support via a particular USB port. Since your device lacks both features, it's unclear if it will still operate as intended.
It varies by model; for instance, the Strix Z590-E uses a particular port, while others require a CPU to flash their memory, allowing flexibility in port choice depending on the user's setup.
The guide doesn’t specify a port and there isn’t one clearly marked on the io shield, which is typical when a particular port is required. When none of these options apply, it looks like the crashfree function isn’t functioning or getting corrupted, and the best fix might be to seek someone who can reprogram the flash externally.
