BIOS not fully responsive and installation issues on a freshly assembled computer.
Hello, I assembled my PC with these parts: * Motherboard: Asus PRIME B650M-A Wifi * Power Supply: Corsair M750X * Processor: AMD Ryzen 5 7600X * Memory: Corsair Vengeance 32GB (2x16GB) / 5600MHz DDR5 * Graphics: MSI GeForce RTX 4080 16GB GAMING X TRIO * Storage: Kingston Fury Renegade M.2 2TB * Cooling: Corsair Hydro H100x After connecting everything and turning it on, I see the ASUS logo. But this becomes tricky: 1. I only access BIOS occasionally by pressing F2. Other times nothing happens. A hard restart is the only option to try again and eventually reach BIOS. 2. The response in BIOS is slow and often freezes (for instance, the mouse stops moving). 3. When I boot into Windows from the USB, I sometimes end up back at the ASUS logo. 4. If I select Windows installer, it occasionally freezes (the mouse stops) before installation even starts. 5. Once inside the installer, it freezes at 0% and then restarts. A few times it passes 0% but always crashes and restarts before completion. The voltages and temps seem normal in BIOS, though I’m new to building PCs, so I might have made a mistake. I ran a self-test on the M2 SSD via BIOS, which completed without issues. I also tried opening BIOS without the SSD, but the problem stayed. I attempted using just one RAM stick, but it didn’t help. What confuses me is how these problems appear randomly. Occasionally, I manage to get ahead by several minutes. Any advice?
Checked online about your motherboard and CPU setup. Many discussions mentioned your RAM is only certified up to 5200MHz DDR5 speed. Your current speed is 5600MHz, and others with similar configurations faced the same problems. Some swapped the RAM to match the certification and it worked fine afterward.
Hi! Thank you for reaching out. I've looked for others with similar problems, but haven't found any matches yet. Could you share a link to one of these so I can verify if the issue is consistent? Also, would it be better to upgrade to slower RAM or try a different MOBO? Thanks!
I checked online for ‘mobo name bios update + cpu name’ and found several Reddit discussions as the main results. Right now mobile isn’t available, so you might want to try setting your RAM to 5200MHz in BIOS if possible, restart and test performance.
You're facing a frustrating issue with your BIOS freezing during saving settings. Here are some possible solutions you might try:
- Restart your computer and see if the problem persists.
- Check for firmware updates for your motherboard.
- Disable any third-party BIOS modders temporarily.
- Try changing the target frequency in BIOS manually if supported.
If the issue continues, consider consulting your motherboard manufacturer's support resources.
Sure, you could try swapping in a RAM module with a higher speed if possible. Alternatively, consider using a board that supports DDR5 at 5600MHz; though it might cost more than just replacing the RAM.
