Big FPS drops in games
Hello everyone, I'm having some issues with my gaming setup. I have a 1080ti, a 4770k processor, 16GB of RAM, but I'm experiencing significant FPS drops during games. It usually goes from around 60 fps to zero for a few seconds, happening several times per minute. I've tried reinstalling the graphics driver using DDU, but I'm not sure what else to try. The affected games include Assassin's Creed Odyssey and Far Cry 5, among others. Additionally, my CPU usage and GPU performance aren't reaching full capacity.
What's your RAM consumption? Just a quick note. Also consider turning off the Windows Game bar, Nvidia Shadowplay (the overlay feature), and Discord overlays — those are common reasons for FPS drops. Try running the game in windowed mode or fullscreen, whichever you're not using right now, and see which one performs better.
If your GPU doesn't reach 100%, it's usually due to a CPU bottleneck. It varies by game, but 0 FPS indicates an issue unrelated to a bottleneck. Your CPU likely has minor limitations, but they shouldn't severely impact gaming. Have you run any benchmarks? Check metrics like frame rates.
Verify if any extra programs are active in the background, as they may affect your performance and slow down operations.
