I’m curious to hear your thoughts before you jump into strong opinions. I like playing BF3, but what would really boost my enjoyment? Maybe unlocking things faster? Right now I’m playing on a TDM server with a small map, aiming for 40 to 50 kills per match. The point and kill limits are both 350, which makes you wonder if getting 50 kills in a shooting game with unlocks would reward you with something. But it doesn’t. It seems like the battlefield is designed to keep things interesting by unlocking items every few rounds, or more often if you’re progressing. As you level up, the gap widens—this is especially important in shooter games where early levels are crucial. The idea is to give players choices, spark interest, and then gradually increase the difficulty as they improve. If the progression feels too slow or repetitive, it can be frustrating. In short, unlock rates seem decent for guns but lack the excitement needed for a smooth experience. I’m not the only one who feels this way, especially since I only play one class. My unlock rate should reflect that.

It takes some time to begin but I favor it over quick unlock methods. Still, getting 100+ hours in is amazing and definitely contributed to the game's lasting appeal. This is clear when I hit eagle—I stopped playing, so unlocks kept me engaged.

Engage conquest in op. metro (64 players) and rapidly advance, seeking items that avoid explosives—avoiding bans keeps you safe and ensures plenty of points.

Now I operate on a TDM server with a limited map. <--- The focus is on completing tasks rather than just winning battles. In games like BF3 and earlier Battlefield titles, you earn more for meeting goals in structured modes. Rush (destroying enemy valuable assets) and Conquest (securing and managing the flag/base) both emphasize achieving objectives, not just taking down enemies.

If you're keen on tight maps, try Domination on the Close Quarters maps... assuming you have Premium or just Close Quarters. It's essentially about TDM. Just choose a few flags and patrol them, creating solid trap or kill spots that keep feeding you kills.

Personally I never had a problem with the unlock rate, didn't seem to take too long. Its definitely no COD though where you get a new something every time you sneeze, which is a good thing you don't IMO, it cheapens the experience too much. Besides the base weapons are just as good as any of the unlocks so its not like your at a disadvantage without them.

It’s about getting tired of using the same weapon repeatedly. I don’t mind if unlocking weapons isn’t ideal, but having different options would help keep things interesting. I’m also unsure if I can access those advanced game modes. I only have the core game, which I got from the humble origin bundle.

Kills take the longest to achieve in unlock objectives-based games. Lead a team, provide solid orders, secure targets, and retreat to let enemies claim them. Return to eliminate them again and reclaim them. You’ll have access to many weapons across classes, and these modes are included in the core game. TDM is the slowest path, but it’s the quickest way to get scopes and gear. You’ll earn only a tenth of what you do in Rush or Conquest.
