You might apply that reasoning to any situation. Components like graphics cards, SSD versus HDD, etc., matter. If it fits his/her budget, he/she could buy the top-tier hardware available in that range. You could make a case if OP spends on an i7 and then delays spending on other items like Kabylake and Z270 at a later time.

Average 100 frames per second with 64 player ultra options at 1440p resolution. No frame drops will occur.

The performance gap is minimal enough that it doesn’t justify moving beyond a DC i7. If someone wanted something with fresh hardware, things would change. But a 4970K won’t be practical for gaming in the next 2-3 years. It’s still performing well compared to older chips or even some current i7s. This discussion focuses on speed, not features. When it comes to performance, switching to a whole new system feels like a poor investment relative to what an upgraded i7 could offer.

It's a strange idea, but could you play the game at 1080p on a 64-player server and describe the experience when everything is pushed to its limit? (Except for the screen blur from your monitor being higher resolution.)

He has a 980Ti + 6800K setup, runs at 1080p, and consistently maintains over 130 FPS regardless of what's happening on the screen.

The performance will definitely be great with 1080p, thanks to your 6700k 32GB DDR4 system and Seahawk 1080 monitor. However, some BF1 maps struggle with frame rates, so even a Dual Titan Pascal setup might not fully fix the issue—they’ll just need better optimization.

It depends on what you value more—price or performance. For gamers, similar performance is often found at comparable prices, so the difference might not matter much.
