Beyond Potential Increased OCing, Water Cooling...
I maintain an off-the-shelf air-cooled unit for testing and as a backup. These systems are replaced roughly every four years, which is what I've observed as the advantage over a high-quality custom water-cooled setup compared to a typical air-cooled one.
The biggest distinction lies in the noise level; my water-cooled units are built to be quiet, remaining much quieter than their air-cooled counterparts even under load.
Temperature differences are also significant—at standard settings, custom water-cooled units typically run about 25°C cooler than standard air-cooled units during operation.
Additionally, the appearance of a custom water-cooled unit can be more appealing, offering a better visual option compared to standard air-cooled models.
