I think it's best to keep using your 8350, as some games aren't fully optimized for 8-core CPUs and others only use 2.
Maybe the release of dx12 will offer some improvements.

I’m not seeing any AMD CPUs that can handle the same high-end gaming performance as Intel CPUs do. I’d recommend going with the i5 6600k if you want to match your 1070.

I think the 8350 stands out among AMD's FX collection.

i think the 8350 is the top choice on amd's fx lineup.
so i think switching to intel makes sense because the 8350 doesn't support 1070.

I'm not seeing any AMD CPU options that can handle the higher end gaming scenarios as well as Intel CPUs do. I'd recommend going with the i5 6600k if you're aiming to match your 1070.
I don't really have the budget for something like that on a college salary (which is pretty tight), so I'm stuck with the 8350 because it was affordable and one of the better AMD processors.

my idea is to keep using your 8350, as some games aren't well optimized for 8-core cpus, only a couple are.
I hope dx12 brings some improvement.
To be honest, most of the games I own that work well on PC (like MGSV PP) run smoothly at 60fps on high settings.
It's just a few that really bother me because I invested in such a powerful machine and it can't handle them.

My advice is to keep using your 8350, as not all games are well-optimized for 8-core CPUs and some only use 2. I hope the release of dx12 offers some improvements. Also, could you clarify what the dx12 concept means? I understand games currently run with dx11, but I’m still unclear about its purpose.

Essentially an API that leverages every available resource to carry out the task.

It's an API designed to make full use of all resources for a given task. So, what does that mean for the 1070 CPU bottleneck?
