Bethesda's 'canvas bag' versus garbage bag controversy
This situation is disappointing for those who anticipated the canvas bag with the $200 USD Fallout '76 edition, as it left them feeling let down. At the same time, Bethesda's reaction came across as unexpectedly dismissive.
In the advertisement, buyers were promised a nice canvas bag, but received a cheap, poorly made crumpled bag instead. When customers complained, Bethesda responded with a straightforward explanation and offered 500 in-game currency as a token of apology, though this amount was minimal and insufficient for even basic purchases.
Many fans were caught off guard by this approach, unsure how to respond given their long-standing belief in Bethesda's reputation as a developer who often prioritizes profit over customer satisfaction. The situation highlights what some see as Bethesda's lack of respect for its audience, especially when they've been paying a premium for a product that didn't meet expectations.
The email from Bethesda seems quite suspicious to me. Still, Fallout feels like a new take on Assassin's Creed, a "game" created purely for profit with no regard for the fans. Remember the Ubisoft's special limited Assassin's Creed Origins pack? It had some low-quality plastic parts and cost around 800 dollars. They didn't even include a complete game copy... which was... okay.
it was just a prototype and too costly to build
i'm studying engineering now... this reminds me of the Paradyne computer case from when SSA needed computers and Paradyne took over for about 20 months lol
ethics bethesda... or do we really lack them in this world?
Bethesda has addressed the matter, confirming it is genuine yet clarifying that their support team is external. They acknowledge the response does not align with their conduct guidelines. Bethesda issued an apology for the tone used, but have not proposed any alternative actions beyond the stated response.
From the narrow range of my understanding regarding this topic (and considering my doubts about Fallout being a bad game), it appears to be clear false advertising. However, has the authenticity of the original email been confirmed? It seems quite bold for a customer service reply.
i plan to look for the email sony sent my dad after he purchased a tv from them years ago.
he bought a 720p model when it first launched, but it seems he ordered a prototype... paid 2k for it, and they gave him the lower tier version for the same amount, explaining that we couldn't sell it to you for 2k since making one would have cost us 4k.
sorry, the tv they sent him was worth 1200 USD
@emosun
Well.... maybe they'll stop exploiting Fallout now and return to creating quality, story-focused games like Dishonored. Games as a service, always online, with micro-transactions... aren't necessarily the future just because of their current issues. I don't remember a game receiving as much criticism as Fallout 76 during a relatively positive period.
