This is great information!
I've tried it before.
For graphics cards, you'll need 0.5mm for the memory chips and 1.0mm for the Voltage Regulators.
If you need more savings, you can double the 0.5mm.

I recently placed an order for Fujipoly Extreme (11.0 W/mK) thermal pads for my 2x AMD 290x's to upgrade the existing ones. All the discussions and reviews I've seen praise them a lot. Considering the specifications, they should work excellently. Also, the original paste and pads were applied poorly, with too much excess and the MOSFET pads compressed to less than half their thickness (which is said to diminish their performance). Even the GPU contact area on the cooler is scratched and needs polishing. It’s a bit disappointing that the Ultra (17.0 W/mK) pads cost about four times more, but I would have chosen those instead. If you're experiencing cooling issues, don’t hesitate to ask for help—there are people who can assist and guide you through the process, like I did when replacing pads and paste on my AMD 290x's.
