Best visual configurations for Assassin's Creed Origins
Best visual configurations for Assassin's Creed Origins
I aimed to experience all the AC titles in the correct timeline. I began with Odyssey, the newest release and also the oldest in the series. I finished it fully with all the DLCs, then moved on to Origins, which came next historically and was released just before Odyssey. But it felt like that game was trying to stress my PC! I played through Odyssey using optimized settings from the HardwareUnboxed video, but even in Athens I struggled to hit FreeSync speeds (44 FPS). I managed solid 60+ FPS with occasional drops between 45 and 50 in big cities. When I tried matching those settings in Origins, I still faced low performance—40-48 FPS at the start in Siwa, dropping further in Alexandria. I switched to High preset, turned off volumetric clouds, and set water to Medium. Around 50 FPS was stable, but in Alexandria I hit the low 30s and beyond. Eventually I reached over 60 FPS most of the time, though I avoid anything below 44 FPS in cities because it becomes frustrating. This issue isn’t new; older discussions about the game didn’t reveal much since its release a few years ago. Many complained about poor optimization, but some argued that demanding hardware doesn’t always mean bad optimization. If Odyssey had been poorly optimized, Origins would be even worse.
Request:
1) Could anyone assist with the optimal Radeon Software graphics settings for this title on my system?
2) Would it help to include the general best settings as well?
3) Any advice on the ideal in-game visuals for Origins given my hardware, especially when paired with Radeon Software settings?
Hardware details:
CPU: Ryzen 5 2600 @ 3.92GHz
GPU: AMD RX590 Sapphire Nitro+ (fixed)
RAM: 16GB DDR4 @ 2993MHz (max at 2993MHz, but crashes occur)
Software: Radeon 20.2.2 (current recommended)
Appreciate any guidance—this is quite a challenge after my own trials!
Thanks a lot,

Hmm, this seems quite unusual given how my 1060 performs at high resolutions and frame rates. It makes sense that Origins isn't as smooth as Odyssey since it uses the same engine but is an earlier title. Still, I can't change the settings—I think GeForce cards might handle them differently than Radeons.
I have a Ryzen 5 3600 and an RX580. I don’t recall the precise configuration, but I managed to run it at 50-80 FPS depending on location—medium to high settings. I think I used adaptive anti-aliasing or something similar. Also, Assassin’s Creed Odyssey feels much smoother than Origins for some strange reason.
I adjusted the graphics settings to medium with clouds and ambient occlusion disabled. The FPS drops still occur. I used MSI Afterburner to monitor system resources and noticed the GPU usage fluctuating between 30-90%, not consistently at 99%. There’s no CPU bottleneck, and thermal throttling isn’t happening since fans run at full speed. GPU temperatures stay below 70°C. Other games perform normally, but Origins seems to be consuming my hardware unexpectedly. I might reinstall the drivers to see if that resolves the issue.
