Hello Everyone,
I’m an impatient person, so I decided to purchase an RTX 3090 to upgrade from an RTX 2080. The performance is amazing—why settle for a 4000 series when you can have something better?
Any of you... I’m someone who loves pushing my system to its limits. Overclocking has always been a challenge, but this Zotac Trinity OC RTX 3090 is quite complex.
I’ve heard that this model has a power limit restriction (possibly fixable via a Zotac update with the vbios patch—maybe?). I’m unsure what steps to take here. I prefer not to take big risks, so I’m concerned about updating an off-brand (like MSI) vbios, which could damage my card.
But if I really need to overclock, I might have to try an off-brand vbios. I’ll need the courage for that.

My questions are:
(1) If I were in your shoes, aiming to get every frame out of the system, should I upgrade the Vbios to a non-brand version and see what happens? Would it help to know I have an Intel CPU K series with video support and my motherboard too? Or would it be risky to update the vbios, potentially bricking the card, then try connecting it via HDMI for video and flashing again? Is that a viable solution?
(2) Alternatively, should I download the Zotac vbios for resizable bar to unlock the power limit and possibly push the card higher?
(3) What settings are you currently using? I’ve adjusted the curve through Afterburner using the overclocking tool, set memory to +1200, and completed all benchmarks and games without any crashes. I’m not aiming for record speeds, just want to unlock the card’s full potential.

Your input is very much appreciated.

there is a possibility that a bricked GPU might not be recoverable when using off-brand vbios, especially if it has 2x8pin or 3x8pin power connectors?

I managed to boost its performance significantly. Core reached +90, memory hit 1200, everything stable. Voltage was raised to +110.

The base value isn't too high either. Use the curve editor in Afterburner to determine your optimal clock for each voltage level. With a power-limited board, you may discover a better clock at lower voltages to stay within the power limit. The GPU frequency will likely be reduced consistently, which helps maintain a stable temperature by lowering voltages and reducing heat generation at higher clock speeds.
