Check your current version and decide whether an immediate upgrade or a scheduled one makes more sense for stability and support.
You're free to choose the option that suits you best. If you don't have any particular reason to delay, upgrading to 24.04 is a good idea right now. 22.04 remains available for another year, which means you're not in a hurry.
You're still two years and ten months away. I've upgraded a few 18.04 LTS VMs last month, lol. https://endoflife.date/ubuntu
I'm not in a hurry. The update is still available until April 2027 without a subscription, and version 24.04 had some issues at launch—personally I'd wait a few months. Kubuntu 24.04 LTS didn't include Plasma 6 in its release, so you're not missing much.
It seems Plasma 6 is likely unstable. Many people downplay the issue, but I haven’t experienced a Plasma 5 crash in years, so I’m cautious about losing stability.
I've actually had the reverse outcome. Plasma 6 has proven more reliable than 5.27, it also added the xwayland video bridge and compositor crash recovery features. I should mention that I use Arch with an AMD/Intel GPU and have been employing Wayland for a few years, so I don't know how it feels outside of that setup.
I've mostly been looking into NVIDIA and Apple Silicon, which explains why the GPU drivers seem a bit rougher. I also noticed Plasma 6 isn't as stable with Xorg, and since I frequently use virtual tigervnc sessions, that seemed to be an issue.
I plan to use all AMD components for both CPU and GPU, skipping Xorg. I’m thinking about upgrading my CPU from the 5950X to the 5800X3D, and the R9 will fit well on my editing workstation or media PC.
