Best RTX 50 Series GPU to Boost 1080p Performance Overcoming RTX 3070
Hey everyone,
I’m thinking about replacing my GPU with one from the upcoming RTX 50 series and would love some guidance on what would suit my current system best.
Current Setup:
- Motherboard: MSI A320M-A PRO MAX
- CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 5700X
- GPU: NVIDIA RTX 3070
- RAM: 16GB (2x8GB) ADATA GAMMIX D30 DDR4 @3200MHz
- Gaming: Primarily at 1080p, mixing competitive titles and story games
Goals: Higher frame rates, improved ray tracing, and better future compatibility for newer AAA titles.
Do you think an RTX 5070 or 5080 would be appropriate here? Given my CPU and motherboard, might it be excessive for 1080p? Also, should I consider upgrading the motherboard or other parts if I opt for a higher-end card?
Looking forward to your advice!
Thanks in advance!
The 50 Series is just a joke and getting a 40 Series doesn't make much sense considering the prices and other factors. A 3070 remains a solid choice for now, with the 60 Series being the next logical step.
You will quickly start hitting CPU and memory subsystem bottlenecks once you upgrade your GPU. Also note that some mid-range GPUs only use x8 PCIe lanes. This is fine if you are on a PCIe 5 or 4 motherboard (4 can show a very slight loss of FPS in certain titles), but using PCIe 3, like your motherboard, can show a significant loss in some titles. There's also the GPU power connector type and PSU to consider.
All in all, you should stick with what you have until you are ready for a full system upgrade. If you really must upgrade now to extend the life of your system for a couple more years. give us your budget, and
more importantly
, your expectations.
When considering upgrades while staying within a low-mid budget, it's important to carefully plan each step. Focus on making informed decisions to ensure efficiency and value.
I didn't specify a real budget since costs differ by country, but could you help me think about what you'd receive for a 1080p AAA game with a limited budget?
This configuration would offer a strong gaming experience at a reasonable cost.
The system components are well-chosen for performance and value.
The processor, cooler, motherboard, memory, storage, graphics card, case, and power supply all meet the necessary specifications for a solid gaming setup.
The overall price point is competitive, considering the included accessories and shipping.
Logain of Hades' choice is excellent considering the cost. Just keep in mind that even at 1080p, some upcoming AAA titles might require lowering several settings to low/medium levels. You're unlikely to achieve high FPS with ray tracing as well. These differences will depend on each game. My goal is to ensure you have realistic expectations. The required specifications for new games are continuously increasing.
