Best Placement For Ubiquiti AC LR?
The antennas are designed for horizontal placement. Simply place it on a flat surface and check coverage. You may need two APs if the signal is weak. I’ve disabled my ISP router’s Wi-Fi and used the Ubiquiti APs without any problems. I’m planning to upgrade to an Edgerouter 4.
You have the UniFi controller installed on a PC. If it’s a PC, configure a rule in Windows Firewall to permit port 8080 for inbound traffic for the UniFi controller. You cannot restart the Ubiquiti device unless it’s connected through the UniFi controller. Alternatively, disconnect the Ethernet cable (it runs on PoE and shuts off). Another option is to access it via SSH using Putty. Windows permits outbound connections but blocks inbound, causing UniFi to interpret the connection as lost.
Yes, you can restart an access point by simply unplugging it and plugging it back in again.
Ensure the AP is linked and active on the UniFi controller. Restarting through the controller works, but it won’t if the AP appears disconnected.
When navigating to devices, a restart appears at the top right in the actions menu. @intertan You don't require constant unifi controller usage even when using several APs.
The suggestion to mount them horizontally comes from the fact that they create a doughnut shape aligned with the ap and ahead of it. In commercial buildings, structures are taller than wide, so adding more aps per story helps cover more levels. For homes aiming for multiple floors, placing them against external walls in the middle of the building’s height is optimal. Here’s a chart showing the radiation pattern of the AC LMR.
