Best Placement For Ubiquiti AC LR?
Best Placement For Ubiquiti AC LR?
I recently purchased a Ubiquiti AC LR but haven’t had a chance to set it up. I’m looking for advice on the ideal location. My setup has an ISP modem that can’t reach the back of my house, which is two floors down. The front part works fine, but I can run an Ethernet cable from the modem to the lower level. If I place the AC LR on a table pointing upwards, would mounting it on a wall be more effective?
It's feasible to install it on the wall, but covering both the upper and lower sides of your home’s rear area could improve the setup. Placing it facing upwards on a table might enhance the connection.
It relies on the arrangement of the internal antennas. You might test it on a table, observe the signal strength, and make changes afterward.
Have you worked with Ubiquiti access points prior? Are they simple to configure for residential applications? Do you find them dependable?
From what I understand, the process mainly involves setting up their software on a PC within your network, which then configures the access point. I haven’t used them before myself. They seem to be solid, dependable, and generally straightforward to install.
I possess two Ubiquiti AC Pros (sufficient for 1200 sq ft). They perform excellently. Simply install the UniFi controller on either a PC or your mobile device (PC is preferred), and after setup they operate independently. If you keep the controller software on a server, it will track usage data. Generally, mount them on the ceiling, though wall installation is also acceptable. Give it a test first.
It doesn't seem like you're planning to attach it to the table. Maybe try doing it and checking the site survey instead. That way you can see how the signal behaves in various areas of your home. If you place it on a table, it won't be easy to adjust later if you need a better position.
