I have two suitable spots for your router: one in the furnace room, a compact space with your water softener and heater, or another by the living room TV in a larger area. Neither location is perfect, but each has its own advantages depending on your needs.
The placement really depends on your home's layout and where people typically use Wi-Fi. You should aim for a central spot inside the house, but try both options and check which suits your needs best.
I'd be concerned about the furnace room as it might get hot and also have a lot of metalwork that would block the signal. However when putting it by the TV you also need to keep it clear for the best WiFi range. So don't try to cram it behind the TV or in an entertainment cabinet.
