Linux offers flexibility since anyone can build their own distribution, and you could even simulate being in North Korea using Red Star OS.

Windows Vista had some XMB features or blade-like interfaces that were impressive back then. The cascading effects were really cool, and it's fascinating how much the interface has changed since then.
