You're aiming to set up a media server on the M1 Mac Studio so it can deliver content to your Apple TV.

You're aware that Docker works on macOS too, correct? It likely needs Rosetta, but it's achievable. If you're interested in testing Jellyfin inside a Docker container on Mac, you can proceed. Alternatively, consider Emby: Emby Server for Mac as another option.

I'm not sure if this works, but I own an Apple TV and have many DVDs I compressed into several hard drives over time. My router has a USB port, and I use an HDD dock to connect drives directly. Everything is networked through a central hub, and the router handles everything. This setup lets me access content over the network easily. It might affect performance slightly, but if you're just watching movies, it shouldn't matter much. Lol

My router does have a USB port, and the thought of having 10Tb media drives spinning continuously in a hallway sounds appealing... but it’s not a reliable or stable option. I don’t trust ASUS enough to keep it functioning long-term. This isn’t the best solution for me.

Rosetta should avoid this, but if Docker could work with Jellyfin on macOS... yes. Still, it seems really encouraging! Thanks!

Absolutely. I strongly dislike plex, but I'm all in.

I see what you're asking about. Do you have a network hub that's simple to reach? If so, a quick solution is to put your 10TB disk into an external drive case with a network port. Just connect it to the hub and access via the network—though it might not be ideal, it could work temporarily.

The Emby fix isn't visible in VLC. The wife's approval score is zero—definitely not viable. It seems I might need to adjust settings more. But I'm not seeking a new hobby or extra work. This should be manageable. I'm not trying to avoid costs; a paid option works if it helps. I found Serviio, and so far it's both promising and appears in VLC.

Adding + SMB makes it super simple. The devices on Apple TV, iPad, and Mac work great. I rely on Plex for the backend, but it offers many features.
