I occasionally switch between different operating systems. I’d recommend trying a distro yourself but keep track of what you enjoyed and disliked about each one. This can reveal patterns in your preferences. For instance, I appreciate the dock feature and the ability to see everything on the screen with window switching. Plasma KDE desktops suit this need. Pre-built options like Garuda and Kubuntu (especially Kubuntu) are popular choices.

I enjoy Mint, though my HTPC is based on Ubuntu. Both systems work well with minimal configuration. Try downloading several live distributions and install them on a USB drive for testing.

If you like to tinker, I really like Arch. Its package manager is nice and there's a user repository which has probably 99% of software you will consider using. The downside is the initial install requires some knowledge of the components of the OS, but if you can get past that stage I prefer it. I think it was easier for me to pick up because I used Linux a lot at work before using it on my Desktop.

The simplest solution I discovered for Mac users is PopOS. You can get it with Nvidia drivers or without, based on your graphics card. I prefer it because it runs on Ubuntu, offering extensive online guides that work for it even outside Ubuntu. Just type: "ubuntu {your question}" to find help. For Windows, Zorin and Linux Mint provide similar interfaces. If you have an Nvidia GPU, initial boot problems can occur due to driver mismatches—though fixing them is straightforward but may be tricky for beginners. With AMD systems, these settings tend to work well. Modern Intel CPUs sometimes face kernel compatibility issues when handling large cores, which can affect performance but isn’t a major concern overall.
