Looking for a fast, minimal OS for your compact laptop that supports Chrome, VLC, and Google Drive. A great option is Linux—choose a lightweight distro like LiteOS or Xubuntu for 64-bit performance.

Most Linux distributions come to mind. I’d suggest Ubuntu or Elementary OS. Linux can take some time to adapt after spending time on Windows, but once you get the hang of it, you might prefer its feel and workflow. Personally, I enjoyed it more despite the limited game and app support. It works well for the apps you really need. You can find it here: http://www.ubuntu.com/download http://elementaryos.org/

Ubuntu would work well, but you might also consider "damn small Linux." It’s just 50MB.

Arch Linux tailored for experienced users. Construct it entirely from scratch using only essential components. The standard installation provides no graphical interface. Among popular distros, Linux Mint offers a minimal footprint. Lubuntu and Xubuntu are Ubuntu-based options featuring streamlined desktop environments.

Lubuntu offers a lightweight experience, while Elementary OS provides a polished feel. PuppyLinux supports 64-bit versions as well.

Crunchbang Linux is a release that hasn't been discussed before. It's built on Debian and offers a minimal and highly adjustable desktop environment. It also allows you to add Google Drive during installation.
