I'm planning to purchase a mainstream laptop suitable for various tasks, keeping the cost under €500.

Typically, well-known brands deliver dependable items. I’d steer clear of non-branded options.
When it comes to the optical drive, you might want to use an external device. Laptops usually don’t have these anymore.
I tend to favor Intel in this price range, especially the latest models. The AMD 7000 series below a certain threshold is essentially rebranded from older generations.
If you manage to find a refurbished AMD laptop with a 7840HS or 8845HS, that would be my top option.
