I'm setting up a new PC for my brother within a $500 to $800 budget. The GPU options are tight right now. I'll take a look at the second market, but should AMD's APU be the top choice or if Intel's integrated graphics have improved?

The 3400g offers the top igpu performance available today. Intel is still catching up, yet 11th generation processors are said to include xe graphics, putting them close to AMD in this area

I've been using my TV setup with an Intel Pentium CPU and built-in graphics, and everything functions smoothly. High definition on a 32-inch Sony monitor works perfectly for me. Since I don’t play games much, I can’t judge if it’s good or bad for that use case.

What's your brother doing on his computer? If he's playing games, I'd recommend the 3400G.

Sure, availability will play a significant role too. I believe the 3400G won't be impacted as severely as other CPUs, though it's hard to say for sure.

What I've heard is true, I'm just concerned about Intel's 11th gen model facing the same issues as the 5000 series. Waiting only reduces the chances of finding the 3400G, which I believe is my top choice right now. Maybe I'll check availability and see if it could be a better option. It seems most users are focused on gaming, so I might end up getting a 3400G or even the 4650G until the GPU shortage subsides—possibly for a while longer.

For gaming purposes, Intel is still lagging until their desktop Xe graphics are available.

3400g costs $275 and the 4650g is clearly the better option.

Examining gaming benchmarks suggests a 1-5 FPS difference is typical, with more consistent performance across games. Switching games could help, but using the 6/12 of the 4650G would likely improve results over time as GPU technology advances compared to the 3400G's 4/8 performance.
