Best DNS for security
Best DNS for security
I've been exploring the top DNS options for security and came to a clear opinion: Comodo Secure DNS and OpenDNS are among the best. The information seems mixed online, making it hard to choose definitively. Comodo is noted for blocking malware sites, whereas OpenDNS focuses more on phishing prevention. Since Comodo doesn't support IPv6, I set it up for IPv4 and OpenDNS for IPv6 on my router. Will this configuration be effective? What IPv4 and IPv6 DNS settings are recommended?
I allowed PiHole to manage DNS queries. It integrates OpenDNS, Quad9, and Cloudflare. Functioning smoothly.
Cloudflare DNS offer a fully open DNS experience, which contradicts their intended goals.
I've been running 1.1.1.1 for quite some time after Linus's video. My tests showed it was quicker back then, though it lacks modern security protections.
I've been using OpenDNS/Umbrella for both IPv4 and IPv6, and it's been quite effective. The security features are solid, though not the most advanced—still a great option overall.
Umbrella is designed for businesses and companies, similar to Comodo Dome Shield. I'm only looking at the free DNS service without an account.
