Best CPU suggestions for gaming virtualization systems
Hello everyone! I’m new to servers, but I own a rack with a few old Poweredge R420s that have worked well for me. My goal is to consolidate my home desktops into one server equipped with 2 or 4 Xeon CPUs and all the dedicated GPUs from my existing machines—similar to what Linus has done recently. I’ve chosen a chassis but am unsure about the motherboard and CPU options. I’m looking for used parts, aiming for each CPU under $150 and a total machine with over 24 cores to support all my virtual machines. I want performance close to my i7-8700 in single-thread speed. For managing VMs, I plan to use UNraid, though I’m open to other suggestions if needed (it should support GPU passthrough). Thanks!
