Hi everyone, I've been planning my savings for a while and evaluating several CPU choices for my upcoming PC. I'm considering both the 13900k and the 7950x since they handle both demanding production tasks and single-threaded activities like RW and Minecraft. Initially, I was leaning toward Intel because of its better single-core performance, but the potential arrival of Ryzen 7000 3D variants has complicated my decision. Do you know how much RimWorld benefits from more L3 cache? I understand the 13900k tends to perform better in games such as Dwarf Fortress compared to the 5800x3D, which can ruin performance in Factorio. However, I don’t have concrete data on RimWorld’s sensitivity to extra cache, and I’m unsure if it really matters. If RW would gain noticeable speed with more cache, I’d probably hold off until AMD releases the 3D VCache versions at CES. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. P.S.: I’m upgrading from an i7-7700k.

Those CPUs are way too powerful for RimWorld. The game isn’t well optimized, so it won’t utilize them effectively, but it should run smoothly regardless.

It seems the system isn't performing as well as expected, especially with the late-game demands.

I was thinking about the 13600k quite a bit. The challenge is that I also handle heavy multi-core tasks, so finding a good balance between them is important for me. It's interesting to learn that the cache performance gives the 7950x an advantage over the 13900k, which has influenced my choice as well. Great to know memory speed matters! I recently got some solid DDR5-5600 RAM and I'm excited it will perform well.
