It’s better to stick with the i5 and move to a newer generation when possible. The improvements you’d get won’t make up for the cost. If you’re after a fresh CPU, opt for an i7 8700—they usually range from $130 to $225 used.

i7-8700(k) is the optimal choice for that motherboard. The upgrade would mainly boost performance in multithreaded tasks, not gaming. Expect only a slight improvement—1% to 3% at most. Some titles like Civilization might see minor gains because of their design. For gaming purposes, it's better to wait for a newer system.
