PC-cillin proved effective, though I usually rely on AVG along with my own judgment.

Real-world protection versus performance is the focus here. ESET and Avast lead the way, while BitDefender, F-Secure and Kaspersky also offer strong options. Note: Microsoft Security Essentials for Windows 8 has diminished in effectiveness over time—it was once solid but now falls short. It runs efficiently on system resources, though Avast and ESET tend to be lighter; however, their detection rates are quite low.

I rely on Avast mainly due to its quiet operation that keeps you undisturbed.

You’re currently using Windows 8’s built-in antivirus, which is working fine so far. Getting infected usually requires being very careless—like opening suspicious email attachments or downloading questionable torrents. Otherwise, staying cautious should keep you safe.

I previously used Avast, but it didn’t block many viruses effectively, so I moved to Norton which performs well. You likely already know how to install it.

It mainly depends on what you prefer, as each antivirus suits different needs. For me, I rely solely on Microsoft Security Essentials and Malwarebytes Anti-Malware, and they function perfectly together.
