I've faced many failures trying this. If I could earn a nickel for every time Avast! forced me to learn something useless in Counter-Strike, I'd have plenty of coins. But if it doesn't really matter (as they say), I'd rather avoid the hassle than deal with it.

The most effective method to prevent viruses is to cut off your computer's connection to the internet. However, I tend to use Avast or Microsoft Security Essentials.

AVG Internet Security 2014 stands out as the top choice. I switched from my regular AVG antivirus last night, and I'm very satisfied. It costs just a bit more, but it offers a stronger firewall and spam/spam filtering for your emails.

For best results, avoid using eBanking or similar services. Stick to Google Chrome and skip anti-virus software. I haven't encountered any viruses in years now.
