I already have Norton since it’s included with Comcast, but I was curious about lighter alternatives.

Norton is great, though you saved money by downloading Avast Free and Malwarebytes—likely the top choice most users have.

Thanks! I understand you received Norton for free, even though you mentioned it's not great.

Malwarebytes and AVG free perform well. Norton uses many resources, but I get it you received it at no cost.

When it comes to paid options, ESET is a solid choice. For free protection, Avast is highly recommended!

Consoleconvergence mentioned Avast! Free and Malawarebytes. Norton is quite resource-intensive, performs poorly, and is nearly impossible to fully eliminate. Avast! is lighter and offers higher detection rates compared to AVG. Antivirus solutions often fall short on Windows, mainly handling threats that are already present rather than preventing new ones. Features like sandbox modes (available in Avast!) can provide extra protection, but maintaining safe browsing habits remains crucial. Due to these factors, investing in antivirus software is rarely worthwhile. The free options are essentially as effective as they are.

Significantly fewer than Norton, yet still includes malwarebytes.

Yes. And here's a tip: in the options, turn on Silent/Gaming mode. That way you won't get the audio and popup telling you "the virus database has been updated" every fifteen minutes.
