Hello, I have AMD Ryzen 5 5600X3D and Ryzen 7 5800X3D. I'm trying to figure out the best setup for these CPUs. My current specs are AMD Ryzen 5 3600 (6C/12T, 35MB cache, 4.2 GHz max boost) on an Arctic Freezer 34 eSports Edition with a black and white heatsink & fan. I'm also using an Intel RX 580 8GB DDR5 graphics card in gaming mode (AXRX580 8GBD5-3DH/OC). My motherboard is a PowerColor AMD RX 580 8GB DDR5 RED DEVIL graphics card, and I have a KHX3600C18D4/16GX 4 sticks with 64GB total. I'm using an Intel 660p M.2 2280 PCIe 3.0 NVMe SSD with a 512GB internal drive (sticker date 2019/08/09). I plan to replace most components, only updating the motherboard and CPU soon. I have two faulty ASUS motherboards and one Gigabyte board ready for B550. I'm considering moving to higher-end platforms now. My RAM stick is bad, and I'm running RMA repairs. Can you help me decide which platform would work best? Should I go with the 7TX3D or look at something above B550?

Ryzen 3600, 5600X3D and 5800X3D share the same socket and platform. A motherboard compatible with Ryzen 3600 works with both X3D CPUs, though a higher-end B450 is suggested for 5800X3D. Most B550 and X570 models should function fine. Avoid using 600-series boards (B650, B650E, X670, X670E) with these CPUs. Ryzen 5000 series uses AM4 sockets, while 600-series require AM5 for Ryzen 7000 models. For 5600X3D versus 5800X3D, consider your needs—gaming, work, video editing? Which titles are you playing?

You're wondering about the upgrade because 3600 offers decent performance but isn't the absolute top choice. With your 64GB of RAM, gaming might not be your main focus.

You need to focus on the B550 platform for those CPUs. There aren't many options above it for Ryzen 5600x3d and 5800x3d. Have you checked out the Microcenter's Ryzen 7700x offer nearby?

Sure, I’ll keep it concise. For light video editing, 3D modeling, and light gaming, a solid mid-range chipset works well—think integrated graphics with decent VRAM for smooth performance.

Because it's a light job and gaming, the 5600 offers the best price. 5800x3d for boosting your gaming performance with extra cores for editing.

I spotted a used AMD Ryzen 7 5800X3D online priced at half its retail value—still unsure if upgrading the CPU is worthwhile. I’m still looking for the B550 platform. Switching from the AMD Ryzen 5 3600 to the 5800X3D could offer a small boost, but I’m not certain about the exact performance gains.

People often check YouTube for comparisons or opinions. It saves time, but only you decide if it’s a good choice.
