Benchmark results for Hitman 2 showing minor FPS gains
So I was running stress tests on my new 2080 SUPER using the Hitman 2 benchmark (though I know benchmarks rarely match real gameplay).
(((Just to be clear, I’m aware that my R5 2600 has certain limitations, and I’m achieving a 3600 FPS in a week before moving to a Ryzen 4000 later this year)))
I began at 1440p with ultra settings and maintained a consistent 75 fps (with minor fluctuations to 65 fps and then up to 100 fps). Then I switched all settings to medium, which only raised the steady frame rate from 75 fps to a stable 80 fps (also peaking at 100 fps).
Am I missing something here? Even with some CPU constraints, lowering every setting to medium should have made a noticeable difference. What are your thoughts?
If you continue purchasing various Ryzen 5 models each generation, why not begin with an i7?
Looking at your topic, it seems you're likely constrained by CPU capabilities as you anticipated:
We can observe the R5 2600 (PBO) with 3400mhz CL14 memory achieving no more than 92fps, regardless of graphical settings or GPU performance. Considering your memory is somewhat slower, it makes sense that you're experiencing more consistent 75fps with those occasional spikes to 100fps.
It wasn't this way when I completed my setup (RTX 2060, R5 2600, 16GB 3200MHz RAM). But after getting a real job, I could afford to invest more in my system. When I finally had the funds for the 2080 SUPER, I thought about upgrading to a 3700X, but realized it didn’t noticeably boost performance at 1440p. Also, I remembered that the Ryzen 4000 was expected to be a solid gaming upgrade, though it came late in 2020 and I didn’t want to delay my CPU upgrade by almost a year without seeing a noticeable FPS improvement. I’m okay spending about $200 on a temporary part that would mostly be used for a year. So, I settled for a full 1440p setup with 60-80fps and then things changed.
