Ben communicates with the Star Citizens FPS about an indefinite postponement
Posting late today, but better late than never! From Bens mouth:
I had assumed it would be a pause in the tool where no details are shared until much later, around eight years hence.
We must overhaul several basic backend components and address critical animation problems before any advantage comes from a launch. The key point I want to emphasize is that Star Marine isn’t an afterthought—it’s a core element of Star Citizen, integral to the experience. We’re not developing a massive first-person shooter; we’re creating a game that relies on this technology to function. Star Marine serves as the essential link between planetary surfaces and space combat, acting as the foundation for seamless transitions. One of the most overlooked yet vital parts of development is crafting the hidden systems that shape the final product. That’s what matters. These aren’t just building a FPS from scratch; this game depends heavily on it, providing stability and depth for everything else.
It looks like you're thinking about a possible early phase of Arena Commander 2.0. Flying the Super Horny alongside @Napper198 appears to be holding steady, provided you kept the gun in place, and it seems the ship won't adapt well to changes in its mass when relocating.
It might resemble the M50, making it quite enjoyable to ride if you're not otherwise interested. If Bens price estimate holds true, I’ll definitely grab one.
The cost is likely between the Buggy and an Aurora. If that’s the case, I’d really hope they don’t bundle it with a starter ship (though I doubt it). It could be affordable, but it’ll feel much weaker compared to the other options...
It seems like this will just be an add-on due to limited flexibility. It’s compact, equipped with simple weapons and shields, no jump drive or bed, but it’s fast. Flying with the M50 in a free flight round feels more enjoyable than expected, and I suspect the same applies for the Merlin Now. I’m just looking for docking clamps for the bottom of my Aurora LX—it’s the luxury version after all.
What everyone seems to forget is the fact that all the ships will actually burn fuel and I don't expect the Merlin to have much of that; Maybe just enough to get from one end of a system to another. It is a short range fighter after all. I don't think even something like a Hornet will do more than three systems before it needs refueling. I'm still waiting on a design post for fuel, it'll be very interesting to see what they'll come up with.
