Hey All! I'm new to overclocking, and would like some suggestions on setting up my rig! It is a custom built PC that I have been working on for a few weeks to assist with 3D modeling/Game Design. As you can tell by my specs, the processor is definitely the bottleneck. I have searched forums, and Google, looking for a similar setup as mine in order to overclock, but no one seems to be Oc'ing the Q9300. So I was wondering what I could do in order to overclock it to a stable enough range (Target somewhere around 3.2 - 3.4). The previous owner of this motherboard had it overclocked to 3.5Ghz. and was performing at a stable rate, but reset everything before I bought it. I will also include CPU-Z screenshots as well as Prime95 results from a 1 hour test, in case I left something out! Any help would be immensely appreciated!
My Rig Setup:
OS: Windows 10 Home x64
Mobo: Asus P5Q-SE2
CPU: Core2Quad Q9300 @2.5ghz LGA 775
RAM: 6GB
2 GEIL DDR2 2gb modules (max bandwidth 400MHz)
2 G.Skill DDR2 1gb modules (max bandwidth 400MHz)
GPU:
MSI GTX 970 (3.5gb (0.5 Vram)
PSU: Antec TruePower Quattro TPQ-1000 1000W Continuous Power ATX12V / EPS12V 80 PLUS BRONZE Certified
HDD:
1x 125gb SATA
1x 1 Terabyte SATA
(Not Sure of Brand)
Cooling:
Rear case fan (Scythe SFF21F 120mm)
CPU cooler is a Zalman CNPS 9900 120mm
CPUZ + Speedfan Temps + Prime95 Results:

BadActor shared a useful guide. In 2009 I managed to reach 4.5GHz stability on my E8400 C2D build. I still keep it for everyday use, though I went back to its original speed. It's fascinating how they omit that chip in the reference (see red area below where I added it):

It has been a while since I've worked on overclocking those processors, and I don't recall many specifics. I still own a Q9300, but the system it's in is mostly just used for troubleshooting now. I'd like to be more helpful.

It's been a while since I've worked on any kind of overclocking for those processors, and I don't recall many specifics. I still own a Q9300, though the system it's in is mostly just for troubleshooting now. I hope I can be more useful.
