You're weighing your options carefully. It seems you're considering different starter packs for Arena Commander, balancing cost and features. There aren't many available with full access, so you might want to explore the more premium bundles. Since you're still evaluating the game, starting with a mid-range pack could give you a solid feel before investing more. Your interest in multiplayer and exploration suggests you might enjoy games that support diverse roles—something like Guns of Icarus fits that vibe. Think about what aspects matter most to you: space combat, crew coordination, or open-world discovery. Looking at these factors can help narrow down the best choice for your preferences.

Consider purchasing the starter pack first, then opt for a separate ship if you prefer.

I intend to play the game no matter what. I have confidence in the developers, appreciate the community members, and have always enjoyed this genre. Fans of Heinlein, Asimov, Weber, etc., too. I used to like Eve until my computer stopped working a few years back. Now I’m switching from laptops and consoles to a desktop, spending about 1.7k on the build plus at least 500 usd for peripherals. So far, another 200-300 should cover the cost of a game I definitely want to play. With income tax coming up soon, it won’t change much. If I can run the game smoothly on a single 970 at medium settings without needing extra power, I won’t need to spend more. Any advice on package or shipping options for my play style? Compared to Eve, I usually use specialized ships or mid-sized vessels with good firepower or versatility in smaller battles. Not sure if that’s useful, but it might help. Cheers, and hope we connect online!

For scouting there are options at each vessel size—Aurora LX, Mustang Beta, 315p through Constellation Aquila and Freelancer DUR, up to ships like the Carrack. Initially focus on ships with jump drives, but you can add extras later. If you prefer support, reconnaissance, or info gathering roles, models such as Hornet F7C-S/F7C-R and Herald might suit better. I suggest reviewing this page closely; some details may be incorrect or changing. Ship selection is quite personal, since many vessels fit different tasks. You can customize appearances over time, adjusting features instead of sticking to raw specs. There are upgrade paths available, allowing you to start small and expand later—though not all routes are open yet, but they aim to offer options down the line. Alternatively, you can purchase the arena commander pass separately so it doesn’t need to be part of a package.

Thanks for the update. I noticed the pass just a short while ago while reviewing everything. Right now, the ship series of vessels caught my attention (along with a couple of fighters, p52), but I have limited knowledge about them. What I find compelling is the Xi'An Khartu-Al. It comes with a two-year warranty and an anniversary, suggesting it might be a light attack or scout vessel—possibly for interdiction. The cutlass and avenger seem promising, though the vanduul scythe isn’t available at the moment. Regarding ships with jump capabilities, it’s hard to say unless they’re short-range, patrol-focused, or simple fighters. If you have any of these in service, feel free to share what you use and how effective they are—how they fly, their performance, or just their appearance.

The Khartu-Al isn't ready for flight yet, but it's praised for its speed and agility thanks to its cockpit-centered design. It functions as a scout vessel with minimal armament. I operate a 325a for its single-seat firepower (though it's still a bit short) and a Constellation Andromeda for crew variety and versatility. If you prioritize discovery and trade, the Freelancer DUR makes a solid choice due to its jump drive and reinforced fuel tanks. The Constellation Aquila is also a fit, offering rover exploration and enhanced sensors, though it lacks a snub fighter and has a modified turret for sensor space. Let me know if you'd like to decide.

The Andromeda constellation includes one P52 unit (others are missing, though a few come bundled with issues), making it ideal for group operations. While solo operation is possible, it’s more practical to bring along crew members. For stations, you can employ NPCs if real personnel aren’t available—this is something to keep in mind. The Khartu-Al appears appealing overall but comes with a slight premium because of its alien technology. It’s also a limited-time release, so availability isn’t guaranteed.

The Cutlass offers a versatile design, suitable for various roles. Though I don’t personally prefer its form, some players enjoy it. It should be agile thanks to rotatable thrusters and the Avenger impresses with its visibility and maneuverability. Upcoming models may add more options, but currently the base version is tailored for bounty hunting.

On the specs, jump drives are listed under 'additional' in the 'other' section. This suggests future upgrades could enable jumps, allowing early exploration and potentially hull insurance coverage if lost.

My initial choice was an Aurora LX for its beginner-friendly nature, moderate armament, and lack of large overhead windows that hide details. Personal preferences play a big role here.

The F7C-M Super Hornet serves as a dedicated fighter; the F7A upgrade followed. I acquired a Freelancer MAX for cargo transport, aiming to secure my next ship. AMD vouchers and upgrades helped me manage costs, allowing me to invest in the Mustang Omega—a racer with an open cockpit, prioritizing speed over luxury.

The 315p was purchased to enhance my Aurora Explorer without overspending, while the Avenger was kept for its visibility and performance. The M50 impressed during testing, offering excellent handling and a comfortable ride. I’m excited to see upcoming variants.

Finally, the M50 stood out due to its smooth handling during trials, making it a strong choice overall. I appreciated the Omega initially but ultimately decided to retain it for cruising enjoyment. The Mustangs I liked at first have since faded in favor of the M50’s balance. Still, I’m keeping an eye on future upgrades, especially if the game expands its options.

I have a Cutlass Blue, 325a, and a Herald. My main issue is with the 325a. Since I need to operate on the other side of the law, my ships should reflect that. For exploration, consider the 315p, Mustang Beta, or Freelancer DUR—they’re all quick to deploy. If you're focusing on Recon or Interdiction, go for the Hornet Ghost or Hornet Tracker.
