Begin with Fiber Optic technology.
I've completed the setup of my Unraid server and am moving data, but I'd like to optimize the process. I'm considering fiber optic equipment and thought I should start with networking, so I reviewed several guides by Linus. However, I need a bit more guidance before making any mistakes. My parts list includes: Transceiver, NIC, and a few fiber cables. A couple of questions come to mind: the listings mention Cisco and Ubiquity compatibility—does that affect peer-to-peer connections? Since my system runs on Intel CPUs, I'm aiming for speeds beyond gigabit. Additionally, with so many cable options available, it's hard to choose clearly. Appreciate any advice!
Because you're using just a 2m cable, I'll switch to a DAC cable. Check this out: https://www.fs.com/products/36822.html?a...&id=222553. The transceiver should work with any switch brand, though some extra features might be added that aren't typical. This shouldn't cause problems even with 10GbE, as it's still quite old. Just keep in mind that Unraid tends to be slow—it usually only handles reading and writing from one disk at a time, so don't expect top performance.
