Good morning, I need guidance on optimizing my AMD Threadripper 2990wx setup. The system runs smoothly at 3.0GHz with Corsair Dominator Platinum memory, but performance drops when I raise the memory frequency. Increasing the CPU speed to 4GHz works for a short time before causing crashes, and changing memory presets in BIOS leads to boot loops or CMOS reset errors. I have liquid cooling and use Windows 10 for fire simulations that depend heavily on CPU and RAM speeds. I’d like to stabilize the system while maximizing performance. Please let me know what adjustments to make. If you need more details, feel free to share.
I only have support for XMP machine. The BIOS is up to the latest release. The crash occurred around 70°C. I replaced the thermal paste a few days ago. These are the standard settings after clearing CMOS. Would you like more details?
Your motherboard runs BIOS version 2101. It seems Corsair RAM doesn't integrate well with Ryzen CPUs, especially Corsair Vengeance, but you have Dominator RAM available. A newer BIOS, version 2601, is recommended for consumer Ryzen boards such as the B/X570 series. These updates can enhance memory stability. Checking the motherboard's QVL list shows your RAM isn't listed, which limits support options. Using eight DIMMs may strain the CPU's integrated memory controller, though it should handle JEDEC timings. You might manually adjust BIOS settings for frequency and timings to test booting, especially if XMP fails. If that doesn't work, consider memory tuning or purchasing a 128GB RAM kit from the QVL for your specific board—likely not Corsair.
I updated the BIOS to version 2601 and attempted to configure the memory (D.O.C.P.). It displayed the settings from my RAM, but instead of 3466mhz it showed 2933mhz since that’s the CPU’s maximum frequency it can handle. After one failed boot cycle, it finally started and now runs smoothly.
With this configuration (including a minimum of one week simulation), I’ll mark the issue as resolved. Appreciate your advice!
