Ok so I am building my new rig, the cooler will be here on Monday:
I have ungodly slow internet in Rural Saskatchewan, so I need to pre-load games I want to play to see how this new rig will handle it.
The Video card is an RX 470 8GB edition because it is not in that forum thread.
Anyway, Currently I have stopped playing World of Warcraft because of things. I don't feel that I would enjoy playing the game as well as testing the rig out. So I am looking for game suggestions, free or otherwise, to see how it handles 1080p gaming. I do not run 4k as I don't see any point in it other than pushing something to its limits. I don't feel I would benefit from it at this point in my life. Anyway.
I was contemplating loading up some of my old favorites.
Star Wars: The Old Republic
World of Warships
Cannot play Wildstar so ... that one is out.
Rift perhaps
Getting GTA V cause it's on sale for $15 right now.
I develop an application for Shroud of the Avatar, and Unity Engine seems to test certain builds so I will be testing it out regardless.
But yes, my download speed is 680kb/s on a good day here, so I really want to try to prioritize the games I download to see how it goes. So if any of these games or maybe others you may suggest could help me see what the difference actually is between my old and new rig... that would be awesome.
Right now, my biggest bane, is not being able to turn shadows on in most games, and the MXAA or FXAA are just off. Most of the time the draw distance is really low, or in general the game settings are on low constantly. So I am sure anything is going to be amaze-balls to be sure.
I'll be burning in my machine probably Tuesday to Thursday next week to make sure everything is running smoothly, but until then feel free to leave a comment or suggestion below. Any questions about the rig that you may need for contemplating a priority, just leave them below as well.
Thank you in advance.

I believed MMOs such as World of Warships are disappointing if your internet connection is poor.
Also, what kinds of games do you typically like?

LOL
When Wildstar Alpha launched, I had to download its 10GB file over the internet. Then I was struggling financially and lost my connection, so I relied on my phone for a week.
During that time, Wildstar performed an update that required me to re-download the entire Alpha client while I was asleep.
Canadian phone providers charge $0.05 per MB, which meant I ended up with a $500 bill that month, but still without internet. By the end of the month, it had risen to around $2,000.
It was a good time overall—I regret nothing.

Here are some of my top picks. All are singleplayer and usually have small file sizes:
FTL Faster Than Light**(add mods)
Half-Life 2**
Rimworld**
Terraria
The Binding of Isaac
Thomas Was Alone**
Undertale
Castle Crashers
Trackmania (Just Stadium, not Turbo)
Creeper World 3*

Usually my gaming experience changes a lot. I used to play FPS games but now they're less common. CS:GO faded from my view a while back.
The online part isn't too bad. My pings aren't terrible and my download speed isn't great, but big updates are just annoying. That's why I'm planning to pre-load some games onto a drive before switching machines, so I don't have to wait for downloads on the new one.
I'll need to reinstall Visual Studio and Android Studio once I get the machine, which will take some time. But the games are the main focus. Anything I haven't downloaded yet will have to be re-downloaded.

I'm really into games that make me think, "Wow, how did I manage to get away with having a 10-year-old machine before?" Things like Witcher 3 are great, but I'm sure my computer won't handle them well. It barely manages to run Skyrim at 15 frames per second.

I really dislike Halo's gameplay—it's the one I was hoping to enjoy, but any first-person shooter where you 'float on the moon when you jump' just doesn't appeal to me.
I can't stand it.
I believe it's because of the long history with Quake II and Unreal Tournament.
And yes, Cities Skylines is another one I have; I'm definitely going to load that up!

Is it clear if you're seeking games that challenge computers or those that are easygoing?
The previous line suggests you're interested in taxing games.

I was thinking about getting Skyrim, but I ended up pirating a copy because I wasn't sure I could run it properly, as suggested by other YouTubers. I had about 30 to 40 minutes of gameplay and my machine would have overheated. HAHA
