They don't really matter, the main reason I played them was to get the weapons available for multiplayer. If there were one change between the two titles, it would be the scale. Everything feels more intense in BF4—more vehicles and much larger maps, though they often feel oversized.

Yeah, you don't play Battlefield for the campaign, you play it for the multiplayer. Hence, 'ONLY IN BATTLEFIELD'. Both games are great but it's probably better to go with BF4 (even though I prefer the maps in BF3).

BF4 offers a distinct experience compared to BF3. DICE improved BF3 based on feedback, making BF4 feel more focused on fast-paced action and realistic gameplay.

The 3's campaign performed well, while 4 focused more on being an autistic character in Battlefield 2. For those interested in a realistic shooter experience, playing Arma 3 offers solid storylines and multiplayer options.

I believe I'll go with BF4 then, and if I end up spending the money. Thanks everyone!

Absolutely, it seems like more content is being released regularly, and many of these updates are available at no cost.

The visuals are significantly improved in BF4. The engine performs much better, the gunplay feels more refined, and the water battles are far superior. It's a worthwhile purchase since it remains current with gameplay updates and continues to introduce new content and levels.

I understand but I personally enjoyed the visuals in BF3 a lot. The kickback, bullet dynamics, and audio effects were superior compared to BF4. In BF4, bullets move too slowly. How would you aim two feet ahead of someone running while using a powerful sniper rifle? You wouldn't need to aim as much forward. They don't travel that sluggishly in real life, and BF3 handled it better. Edit: The sound quality is especially impressive—much more engaging, especially with a home theater setup like mine. BF4 falls short in this area.

The sounds are actually almost identical, Battlefield 4 even has more bass. Try War Tapes for really cool sound. I think the bullets are slow simply for balance. After all, it's a video game, not a war simulator. In Battlefield 3 the run-and-gun sniper was a very viable option (I love doing it on PC) and it was quite annoying in a balance perspective. Snipers realistically DON'T run and gun with their rifles. So, DICE forced them to be support roles by making bullets travel slower and fall faster. Battlefield 4 is now more balanced than Battlefield 3, and it'll only get better as DICE actively patches the game and irons out the few remaining bugs. @molty Also, BF3 was an "on the house" game a few months ago (the game was free if you claimed it, I mean totally free, you get to keep it forever.) It might be "on the house" again on Origin some time. Also, Battlefield 3 goes on sale SO OFTEN for like $5 or less. So, it's pretty cheap. That's on PC, though. I don't know the prices for console.
