Battery pack on the mainboard
Hi there, Your dad left you a PC he found at work, and you were excited to upgrade it before selling it. You noticed it wouldn’t turn on and saw a small battery on the motherboard. You’re wondering if that battery might be the cause. After checking other possibilities, everything else seems fine.
In typical contemporary setups a depleted CR2032 won’t stop the system from starting. The problem probably lies elsewhere in the circuitry. Have you checked any of the other parts?
It's just the CMOS battery keeping BIOS data intact. It prevents the system from restarting to an old date or time every time it powers off. The boot process still works normally. Make sure the power switch on the back of the PSU is functioning and all cables are secure. Lights and fans should start up as expected.
I’ve verified the CPU, RAM, power supply, and hard drive—everything is working properly. I was planning to install an additional CPU just to observe the outcome.
